Misogyny in Vegan Activism

Some time ago I posted about a short film called The Herd, directed by Melanie White, and known as the first ‘feminist vegan horror movie’. I have come to the realisation that this film, rather than intelligently promoting the vegan ethic, in fact follows in the well-trodden footsteps of PETA and other notable animal rights organisations by using misogyny to sell veganism.

Aside from the fact that this type of activism has been shown to be ineffectual, it also has the potential to be particularly damaging to people who have experienced trauma against their own bodies. Therefore I have removed the film from Herbivore Books and instead urge you to read The Woman as Sexy Dying Animal Trope written by Dr Corey Lee Wrenn, the founder of Vegan Feminist Network, which examines the above issues in more detail.
